"Das ist ein Unicum!" proclaimed Kaiser Joseph II and *the* Hungarian liqueur was christened. A tasty, vaguely Jagermeister-like drink, our Scott Savoie discovers it's also not bad with energy drinks...

One of the things everyone says you have to try in Hungary is Unicum. I am not a big fan of bitters, but I figured „Why not?”
We were mixing them with an energy drink called Bomba. The concoction is called a Uni-Bomba.
According to Wikipedia, the drink was initially presented by an ancestor of Zwack founder József Zwack to Kaiser Joseph II of Austria, who said "Das ist ein Unikum!" ("This is unique!")
The drink is produced nowadays by Zwack according to a secret formula of more than forty herbs, and the drink is aged in oak barrels. During the Communist era in Hungary, the Zwack family lived in exile in the United States, and Unicum was produced using a different recipe. After Communism fell, Péter Zwack returned to Hungary and resumed the production of the original Unicum.
The exact ingredients may be a secret, but I am pretty sure they put some alcohol in there somewhere.
Unicum generally produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness, but too much consumption can lead to blurred vision and some coordination problems.
Drinking Unicum may affect your ability to operate heavy machinery, power tools, or farm equipment.
All in all, I enjoyed my Unicum night.Unicum tastes a lot like Jaegermeister but is perhaps a bit more medicinal. There was a good reason why Joseph II didn’t dub it „köstlich.”
De Unibomba finom volt.
