With over 511,825 people infected worldwide and another 5,816 deaths from the Swine flu, many concerns have been raised as to the level of concern people around the world and in Hungary should have concerning these numbers. To date, fewer than 300 cases have been reported for Swine flu in Hungary; however, four of those people have died according to the Hungarian health authorities and with winter coming on, most people should consider getting vaccinated against the virus. The new variant of swine flu, A (H1N1) causes risks to certain groups and these high risk groups are currently being inoculated. Since May, 283 of the cases have been from this strain of Swine flu from the 300 infected. It is recommended that if your family doctor offers you the vaccine, you should take it. The government has ordered six million doses of vaccine from a local biotech firm called Omnivest a company that is claiming their A (H1N1) vaccine has no adverse side effects, but some feel that the vaccine is a poor quality solution while Omnivest has threatened to sew the media for creating a scare over the accusations.
A 33-year-old Hungarian woman who was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy for cancer died this year along with a 64-year-old woman after receiving the inoculation, authorities are looking into whether it was the vaccine that caused the death or if it was from the chronic, mild heart disease the patient was suffering from. Another fatality last week was of a 47-year-old man who was being treated for pneumonia. Ferenc Falus, Hungary’s chief medical officer actually was inoculated in front of reporters last Wednesday to quell public fears of the safety of the vaccine and encouraged all to get vaccinated and as quickly as possible. A winter epidemic is possible and could reach epidemic proportions, the number of influenza the week before last were 16,000 cases and could involve a new variant virus. On TV2 on Sunday an advisor spoke saying that there are some recipients that the new flu vaccine is not suitable for such as small children and pregnant women. It is recommended that pregnant women should instead be treated with antiviral products of which there is not enough in Hungary, the problem is being addressed before the committee on Monday.
