Google has a relatively new function that allows translation between several different languages. You can put in single words, sentences, or web addresses.
This is very helpful for the language learner as well as those interested in foreign news media.
With Google Translate, you can chat with people who you otherwise could not understand.
However, be forewarned that sometimes the translator screws it up. It is good to check the translation back into your own language to see if it still works.
Slang and odd expressions don’t computer-translate very well. For example, if you were to tell someone that their cock stinks of ass, using a computer translator, it might translate to „your chicken smells like a donkey.”
Or if you want to say that you want to pork someone then it may translate as „I am want pigging you.” (Or „I want that if I pork you.” –Ed.)
Which of course doesn’t make any sense.
If you use Google translate for simpler tasks, it can work pretty well.
The fact that a workable Hungarian translator has taken so long to create is proof of the langauge’s difficulty and apparent illogic.
There is yet to be a translator that passes the Turing Test; probably no program can ever master the nuances of language. In the meantime, the computer programs keep pigging up the translations and translators’ jobs are safe for now.
