Pretty much what the title says: How to get cheap eats in Budapest.
Written by Scott Savoie
So you've got 600 forints left and you have a need for feed. Don’t worry: Budapest has numerous dining options in the €2-range.
Gyros are ubiquitous and can do the trick. There are a lot of all-night gyros places around the city.
Chinese food is improbably cheap as well. Many chinese fast-food places have a meal for around 550 or 600 forints.
Otherwise, you are back in a szupermarket looking at the canned food shelf.
There is an almost infinite array of „traditional” Hungarian dishes in the uncoventional doboz: For example, stuffed peppers or stuffed cabbage, pörkolt, bableves, etc., are all available in a tin.
Be careful reading the labels, however: There are some surprises lurking within.
For example, be aware that „marha” is beef and „maj” is liver. Both are brown chunky substances that look good on a label and both begin with „MA”, but they taste different.
These cans will also serve up stomach and gizzards and all sorts of tripe, so you may want to bring your dictionary to the CBA.
Eggs are also a low-cost way to feed yourself. If you have the means to prepare them, you could be like Cool Hand Luke for few euros.
