First to the scene in this summer of stars is B.B. King, otherwise known as Riley B. King or the 'King of Blues', is coming to Budapest on July 16th. One of jazz's most creative performers, B.B. King will be playing his “One More Time” tour at the end of a forty-year long career as a sensual rhythm and blues performer—a reputation that has allotted him a stellar reputation as one of music's most innovative and mesmerizing stars. A performer for millions to date, he began a career in music as an early guitarist who worked in corner pubs in his hometown of Pittsburgh. Some of his classics include “Live At The Regal,” “Together For The First Time,” “Three O'Clock Blues” and “You Don't Know Me” are a few in a long list of hits.
Another premium performer set to play for the first time ever, on August 22nd, comes Madonna, the famous diva of pop who will play in Budapest during her Sticky and Sweet Tour at Kincsem Park. Tickets are on sale at ticketpro.hu. Madonna came to Budapest in 1996 for the shooting of Evita, but has never played here. It will be an evening to remember. There are 3 types of tickets that can be purchased: Gold will cost 30,000 HUF; Silver 22,500 HUF; and Bronze for 15,000 HUF.
Topped out as one of the best concerts of the summer, Budapest welcomes Leonard Cohen, celebrated singer/songwriter of the 1960s generation who will be playing at the Papp Laszlo Arena. A true original, Cohen is in town for his World Tour on August 31rst, for an evening display of his legendary music and songwriting talent. Take a wide-range of songs in with a two-and-a-half hours of a startlingly unforgettable music. His vision illuminates many subjects from love and sex to death and religion. Leonard Cohen is known for his albums; Songs of Leonard Cohen, Songs of Love and Hate, I'm Your Man, The Future and Dear Heather. His music has traveled both wide and far with many artists having done renditions of his songs such as U2, REM, Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and the late Johnny Cash.
Expect more excellence to follow with Tom Jones playing at the Papp Laszlo Arena on the 18th of November. A Welsh born singer, Tom Jones has sold over 100 million records and reached the height of his career in the 1960s. He moves like Elvis (his idol) and met him in 1965 at the Paramount stage at which time they began a friendship that continued until his death. Some of his more popular songs include: “It's Not Unusual” “Chills and Fever”and the theme song from the James Bond film Thunderball, and his most successful single ever, “Green Green Grass of Home” “What's New Pussycat?” “Help Yourself” and “Delilah” “She's a Lady” and “A Boy from Nowhere”. Tom Jones has a history of performing in places like Las Vegas at the Flamingo and at Caesar's Palace and in New York at the Copacabana night club. He has performed for President's, actors and for many films alike.
Another fabulous performer coming to Budapest is Dianna Krall, Canadian-born, and well-known throughout the world is scheduled to appear in Budapest to play on the 11th of December at the Papp Laszlo Arena. After having produced her twelfth album, Krall is ready to perform her sensual, erotic music for her fans worldwide. Her album Quiet Nights derives from her feelings for Brazil and bossa novas, a wave of music that became popular in the cafes of Rio in the early 1960s. In 2001 Krall came out with a multi-platinum album entitled The Look of Love. Many consider this album to be her best work. She won a Grammy for best jazz vocal in 1999 with When I Look in Your Eyes. Married to Elvis Costello she came out with a Christmas Album in 2005 that coincided with the birth of her twin sons and became one of the season's best sellers.
